Matthew 5:14 Let Your Light So Shine Before Men

Matthew 5:14-“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

This passage of scripture comes out of what is known as Jesus "Sermon On The Mount.”

In a world that seems to be darkening day by day, we the children of God, the people of God, are called to be "Light" in the midst of this dark world in which we live.

Jesus says we are the "Light" of the world. "Light" has to come from a power source. The Holy Spirit is the power source of the ""Light" that lives inside the believer. His "Light" will never go out for His "Light" (Gospel Truth) will forever shine in the hearts, mind, and life of the believers.

Jesus also said, He is the "Light of the world." Jesus life in comparison to the lives of the Pharisees and the religious leaders emphasized such a clear and great difference between Him and them. Jesus did not try to keep the law, He is the Law. “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the Prophets, but I have come to fulfill it” (Matt. 5:17, NIV).

The things Jesus said and the things He did were exactly the opposite to the acts of His critics.

1 John 1:5-This then is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.

Adam and Eve started out in the "Light" in the garden, but when  they chose to eat of the forbidden fruit, sin’s darkness came into the world and infected every human being from that moment forward, even unto today.

Jesus describes the believers, His followers, as a "Light" that sits on a city hill that can not be hidden. If the "Light of Christ is truly in us, it can not be hidden.

To hide a light is to consider it as useless. It has no purpose being hidden, but when allowed to shine, it penetrates through the darkness that once was.

To impact this dark and lost world as Christians, our "Light" must shine in obedience to the commands of God's Word, and the leading of His Holy Spirit who indwells us as believers.

People of God, we have the power to make a difference in our world. Light will overcome darkness every time, but it must be shining to make the difference. Our walk and talk must line up with Scripture. Be no double minded, for if you are the word of God said we are “double mind” and “unstable” in not some, but all of our ways” (Jas. 1:8, NIV).

Sin in our lives is the only thing that keeps the "Light" of Christ from shining in and through us.

If anyone continues to reject Christ, and live on in sin apart from God, through Christ, here is Christ verdict concerning them. "This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and doesn't come to the light, lest his works would be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God" (Jn. 3:19-21, NIV).

In spite of this dark world in which we live that appears to be getting darker instead of brighter, we have some good news.  “The light shines in darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it” (Jn. 1:5, NIV).

Amplified version puts it this way: “The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it”.

People of God, let your "Light" so shine, for Jesus declares that you are the "Light" of the world.

God Bless You!
